Invitation to the workshop on New Disability Law

According to the 2006 VHLSS, about 15% of the population has a disability and roughly a quarter of all households have a disabled member. If we look only at severe disabilities, those prevalence rates shrink to 3.6% among individuals and 12.4% among households -- but still represent millions of people who tend to be excluded from many of our development activities.

Dear Sir/Madam,

On September 15, The World Bank will host a workshop on implementation issues for Vietnam''''s new Law on Disability Rights. Vietnam has shown a commitment to making development more inclusive, first as an early signatory to the UN''''s Convention on Rights of Disabled Persons, and then with passage this year of landmark legislation that makes commitment to remove the barriers to participation in society that many disabled people face. We hope that this event will serve as a springboard for finding ways to work together so that all citizens of Vietnam can share in the country''''s development. Please join us at this workshop to learn about these issues and begin thinking of practical ways to work together. The workshop will take place from 8:45 AM until noon on September 15 in the Ho Chi Minh Room on the 6th floor of our office at 63 Ly Thai To Street.   We enclose for your information a copy of the preliminary draft agenda and background information about the workshop.
